MANAUS, Brazil (AP) -- Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is being treated for a minor ankle strain ahead of the Azzurri's World Cup opener against England.

Coach Cesare Prandelli said the Italy captain exited training Friday at the Manaus stadium earlier than planned.

Prandelli says "it's a minor strain. He's undergoing therapy."

Italy's reserve goalkeepers are Salvatore Sirigu and Mattia Perin.

The 36-year-old Buffon has already tied a record held by Germany great Lothar Matthaus and former Mexico goalkeeper Antonio Carbajal by being included in his fifth World Cup squad.

Italy faces England on Saturday in Group D.

Buffon had back trouble at the 2010 World Cup and played only in Italy's opening match as the Azzurri were eliminated in the first round.
