Taipei, July 1 (CNA) The severe thunderstorms Taiwan has experienced over the past few days could give way to more mild weather patterns from Wednesday thanks to a strengthening high pressure system over the Pacific, the Central Weather Bureau said Tuesday. Taiwan could continue to see cloudy to sunny skies in the morning, while afternoon thunderstorms are likely only in northeastern parts of the country and mountainous areas, forecasters said. Areas that will experience inclement weather should however expect strong gusts and heavy rainfall, the bureau cautioned. Temperature-wise, highs across the country could hover between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, while downtown Taipei could see the mercury hit 36 degrees, it said. The bureau said chances are high that Dawu Township in the southeastern county of Taitung will see Foehn winds, the warm and dry winds that blow down the sheltered side of mountains into valleys and bring temperatures even higher.
