President Ma arrives in San Francisco

San Francisco, July 3 (CNA) President Ma Ying-jeou arrived in the U.S. city of San Francisco Thursday on a transit stop en route to Taiwan, after wrapping up a two-nation Central America visit. At the San Francisco airport, Ma was greeted by Raymond Burghardt, Washington-based chairman of the American Institute in Taiwan, and Shen Lyushun, Taiwan's representative to the United States. The president was scheduled to attend a dinner later in the day with Taiwanese expatriates there. He will depart early Friday for Taiwan, with a refueling stop in Hawaii. He is expected to arrive home Saturday. The main purpose of Ma's latest trip to Central America was to attend the inauguration of Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela on July 1. Ma also traveled to El Salvador, where he signed a joint communique with President Salvador Sanchez Ceren. (By Kelven Huang and Y.F. Low)
