MADRID (AP) -- Cristiano Ronaldo and Andres Iniesta led tributes from modern stars and football followers around the world for Real Madrid great Alfredo Di Stefano, who died on Monday at age 88.

Ronaldo called Di Stefano a "maestro" and Iniesta honored him as a "legend."

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says "Real Madrid's best player has left us."

FIFA president Joseph Blatter said in a statement that Di Stefano was his "favorite player" and "the most complete player I've seen."

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque says "I knew him well and of course I lament his passing away very much."

Barcelona, Madrid's main rival, joined Spanish clubs in expressing their sympathies.

Di Stefano helped Madrid win five straight European Cups from 1956-60.
