Taipei, July 8 (CNA) The outer bands of Super Typhoon Neoguri could bring heavy rain to northern and northeastern Taiwan on Tuesday, according to the Central Weather Bureau. The bureau issued a heavy rain alert for Yilan County in northeastern Taiwan and for areas north of Hsinchu County, urging residents of those areas to take precautions. The chances that a sea warning would be issued decreased Tuesday, as the super typhoon headed north toward Japan and was unlikely to reach Taiwan, the bureau said. But it cautioned people traveling to Japan and boats operating in seas north and east of Taiwan, near Japan's Okinawa Prefecture, or in the Bashi Channel between Taiwan and the Philippines to still be on alert. As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, Super Typhoon Neoguri was centered some 450 kilometers east of Taipei and was moving in a northerly direction at a speed of 24 kilometers per hour, according to the bureau. The super typhoon was packing sustained winds of 183 kph, with gusts reaching 226 kph. (By Christie Chen)
