LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) -- Film distributors say "Half of a Yellow Sun" will premier in Nigeria Aug. 1 after months of delay because censors warned it could undermine national security and demanded cuts and edits.

It was unclear what changes were made to satisfy the censors. The movie is partly set during Nigeria's 1960s civil war, which remains a sensitive subject. And it comes as the country confronts an Islamic uprising that again threatens to tear it apart as tensions increase between Muslims and Christians in Africa's most populous nation.

The movie has been cleared for viewing by people over 18 years old.

Producers Shareman media and FilmOne Distribution thanked Nigerians for their patience in a statement Tuesday. The movie starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Thandie Newton was to premier in April.
