HTC 'selfie phone' to be launched in Q4: report

Taipei, July 19 (CNA) Taiwan's HTC Corp. is set to release several new devices in the second half of this year, including a new "selfie phone" codenamed "Eye," which will be launched in the United States in the fourth quarter, according to a report published Friday on technology news website eprice.com. The HTC Butterfly 2, an Android-based, 4G LTE-capable smartphone designed and developed by the company, has been certified in Japan, and the international version of the HTC Butterfly 2 has received VISA certification for contactless NFC payments, indicating that the device will be launched soon, acccording to the report. In addition, while a new variant of its flagship HTC One (M8) has been available in China since the first half of this year, the official version of the device will soon make its China debut after certification by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. According to market speculation, HTC plans to launch its first handset compatible with the Windows Phone 8S operating system, the HTC W8, in the third quarter of this year.
