Taipei, July 23 (CNA) Transportation and Communications Minister Yeh Kuang-shih will fly to the offshore county of Penghu early Thursday to obtain firsthand information on the fatal crash of a TransAsia Airways flight there Wednesday, the ministry said. Yeh confirmed Wednesday that 47 of the 58 people onboard the flight had died and 11 survivors had suffered various injuries. The flight, coded GE 222, was scheduled to take off from Kaohsiung at 4 p.m. for Magong but was delayed until 5:42 p.m. due to bad weather. As the plane was preparing to land at Magong Airport in heavy rain, it was forced to pull up because of poor visibility, the Penghu County Fire Bureau said. On its second attempt at landing, the aircraft crashed in the village of Xixi in Penghu's Huxi Township, the fire bureau said. (By Wang Shu-fen and Lee Hsin-Yin)
