MOTHERWELL, Scotland (AP) -- The hottest day of the year in Scotland was no match for the Brownlee brothers, the most dominant family in the sport of triathlon over the past three years.

With temperatures reaching 29 Celsius (84 Fahrenheit) at the start of the run leg, 2012 Olympic gold medalist Alistair Brownlee pulled away to an 11-second win over his younger brother Jonathan, the London bronze medalist, at the Commonwealth Games on Thursday.

As well as their Olympic successes, the English brothers -- Alistair is 26, Jonathan 24 -- have shared World Triathlon Series titles since 2011 and have won dozens of individual races on the circuit.

It was a winning day all around for England in the sport. Jodie Stimpson won gold in the women's triathlon while compatriot Vicky Holland earned the bronze.
