5 killed, 207 injured in Kaohsiung multiple explosions

Taipei, Aug. 1 (CNA) Five people, including a fire fighter, were killed and at least 207 others injured in the multiple gas explosions in the southern city of Kaohsiung, Premier Jiang Yi-huah said early Friday. Jaing, who rushed to the disaster response center to handle the aftermath of multiple gas explosions, also said that fire fighters from the neighboring Tainan City and Pingtung County, as well as hundreds of soldiers were called to help with the rescue efforts. President Ma Ying-jeou also ordered "full-gear rescue efforts." The worst accident ever happended in Kaohsiung began with gas leaks in the sewage system of city's Cianjhen District, leading to multiple explosions late Thursday night, Premier Jiang said. The cause of the gas leak has not yet been confirmed. The number of casualty may keep increasing as rescure efforts are still on going, according to the city's fire department.
