ISLAMABAD (AP) -- Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has appointed a retired supreme court judge as acting chairman of the country's cricket board.

Justice Muhammad Sair Ali will also act as election commissioner and will conduct fresh elections for a permanent chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board within one month.

The administration of the PCB has been in turmoil for more than a year since the Islamabad High Court suspended Zaka Ashraf in May 2013 while declaring his election process as "polluted."

Journalist Najam Sethi replaced Ashraf as acting chairman but Ashraf fought the decision until the supreme court asked the government to appoint a new acting chairman and conduct fresh elections.

The government says Sethi and ex-chairman Shaharyar Khan will be on the new board of governors.
