Taipei, Aug. 6 (CNA) The South Korean capital has earned a place as the third favorite travel destination for Taiwanese for the first time, according to a survey published Wednesday by booking site The Japanese metropolises of Tokyo and Osaka came in first and second, with Seoul coming in right behind, the survey showed. Seoul came in at sixth last year and fifth in 2012. In the first six months of this year, Taiwanese travel preferences have changed. While Tokyo and Osaka have stayed at the top of their list, Korean soap operas like "My Love from the Star" and "The Heirs" have put Taiwan's trade rival on tourists' radar. Meanwhile, Sapporo in Japan entered the top 20 for the first time. The survey results also showed that political instability had a major impact on Taiwanese interest in Thailand, where civil unrest and curfews made Bangkok slid from the No. 5 spot last year to No. 8 this year. Kuala Lumpur dropped out of the top 20, possibly spurred by safety concerns after two Malaysia Airlines tragedies this year. In North America, longtime favorite destinations Las Vegas and Los Angeles slid immensely. Sin City dropped from No. 10 to No. 15, while the City of Angels fell from No. 14 to No. 19.
