Tunisia's Marwa Amri has become the first African wrestler to reach No. 1 in the world rankings.

Organizing body FILA announced Wednesday that the five-time African champion in women's freestyle is now atop the 55-kilogram rankings.

The 25-year-old Amri won gold medals in Spain and Greece last month to claim the top spot, a first for any African wrestler in either men's or women's freestyle or Greco-Roman.

Amri has already won five tournaments this year.
