Taipei, Aug. 7 (CNA) A man who fell to his death in an apparent suicide in Taipei Thursday hit and killed a neighbor when he landed, police said. The 21-year-old man surnamed Wu, who had lived in a 10-story residential complex in the city's Wenshan District, fell from the top of the building at around 8 a.m., according to the police. The woman he killed, a 42-year-old surnamed Li, lived in the same complex and was talking to another neighbor in the courtyard when she was hit, the police said after interviewing witnesses. The two were pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital.
A similar accident occurred in the city in March 1986, when a street vendor died after being hit by a woman who jumped from the top of a 13-story building on Xinsheng North Road in Zhongshan District. The woman, however, survived her suicide attempt, suffering only minor injuries. Jumping off buildings, drowning and hanging are among the most commonly used methods to take one's own life in Taiwan.
