Unemployment at 4.02% in July

Taipei, Aug. 22 (CNA) Taiwan's unemployment rate, while edging higher in July to reach 4.02 percent, was at its lowest level for the month in 14 years, according to the latest figures released by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) Friday. The rate represents an increase of one-tenth of a percentage point from a month before but a decrease of 0.23 percentage points from July 2013, the DGBAS said. The rate was the lowest for the month since July 2000, when unemployment was at 3.06 percent. The number of unemployed in July stood at 464,000, or 13,000 more than a month before, according to the DGBAS. (By Lin Meng-ju and Jay Chen)
