Professional display market research agency DisplaySearch pointed out, after seven consecutive quarters of declining notebook computer shipments, shipments finally showed positive growth in Q2 2014.

DisplaySearch’s quarterly portable computer shipment and forecast report statistics indicate notebook shipments in Q2 reached 45 million units, growing 1% year-on-year.

DisplaySearch pointed out, the coinciding wave of commercial computer replacement and retirement of the Windows XP operating system, has driven accelerated double-digit growth in the North American and Western European notebook markets. In addition, market share captured by Google’s Chromebook and various low-priced notebook brands have added to growth in shipments.

After notebook shipments declined sharply last year, the top five global notebook computer brands focused on shipments and, DisplaySearch statistics indicate, Q2 2014 shipments grew 16% YOY.

Surveys show, Lenovo surpassed Hewlett-Packard in Europe, China, and Latin America with an 18% market share driven by strong sales to lead notebook shipments. Asus shipments continue to grow in Europe, China, and Asia, displacing Dell for the number 3 position.

However, tablet computer shipments continued decreasing in the same period. Shipments from the top five brands declined 12% YOY.
