Kaohsiung, Aug. 25 (CNA) More than 200 dogs are at risk of starvation after the 70-year-old man who was taking care of them in Kaohsiung was found dead at the stray dog shelter he built in the city, an animal protection group said Monday.

The Animal Rescue Team Taiwan (TRTT) called for donations to help feed the animals at the Lin A Po shelter, and it has set up an online platform on its Taiwan Dogs and Cats United Donation Networks to raise funds for food for the dogs, TRTT spokesman Antoni Ni said. The shelter was set up by Lin Chi-chang more than three decades ago, and he had lived there alone since then, according to Ni. Lin, nicknamed Lin A Po (A Po is a term of respect for old men in Mandarin), was found dead last Friday. Judging from the dark and swollen corpse, police and prosecutors determined that Lin had been dead for over three days, Ni said. There were no details available on how Lin died or how the stray dogs and the shelter will be handled as of Monday evening. (By Cheng Che-fon and Elizabeth Hsu)
