Taipei, Aug. 26 (CNA) Accommodations at youth centers run by the non-profit China Youth Corps (CYC) will no longer be available to people age 40 or older, following changes to regulations by the Ministry of Education. People over the age limit can, however, still make use of the low-priced and well-equipped facilities if they are students, participants in certain public activities, or CYC employees or volunteers, according to the ministry's Youth Development Administration on Tuesday. Family members, teachers and friends accompanying any of the above can also stay at the Youth Activities Centers, so long as the number of accompanying individuals is no more than four, said the administration. CYC operates 13 youth centers around Taiwan, all of which are located in scenic areas and popular tourist destinations and offer services from lodging to group tours, hiking trips and educational training. Accommodations were previously available to anyone under 45. Youth Development Administration Deputy Director-General Shih Chien-chu said the age adjustment was made to be consistent with the age limit of under 40 for applicants to the Junior Chamber International Taiwan and candidates for the Outstanding Young Person award. The administration admitted, however, that lowering the age barrier could cut short the number of people staying at youth centers by 18 percent. (By Hsu Chih-wei and Elizabeth Hsu)
