Taipei, Sept. 1 (CNA) Taiwan pulled in another victory at the TWIF (Tug of War International Federation) Outdoor World Championships in Madison, Wisconsin, taking gold in the women's 500 kilogram category.

The team of students and alumni of Taipei Jingmei Girls High School won the women's 500 kg title for a third consecutive time, defeating Sweden 2-0 in the final, according a statement released by the school Monday.

Commenting on the Taiwanese team's performance, coach Kuo Sheng said the members have matured greatly and demonstrated their capabilities by winning the competition.

In the championships that were held in the last week of August, the Taiwanese team also won the women's 500 kg and 540 kg categories in the open club competition and placed third in the 540 kg group category, the school said.

The club competition -- generally seen as a warm-up to the tournament -- was held before the formal championships on Saturday and Sunday, according to the school.
