Taipei, Sept. 3 (CNA) Taiwan's HTC Corp. saw revenues rebound in August from a July slump as the smartphone maker began shipping the second-generation of its popular Butterfly series phone to Asian markets. HTC's consolidated revenue for August totaled NT$14.5 billion (US$484 million), up 37.1 percent from July and 10.4 percent from a year earlier, the Taoyuan-based company said Wednesday in a statement. From January to August this year, HTC reported consolidated revenue of NT$123.3 billion, a decrease of 13.4 percent from the same period last year. The monthly growth for August was attributed to the Aug. 19 unveiling of the HTC Butterfly 2, which went on sale in Japan Aug. 29 and hit Taiwan stores Tuesday. The 5-inch flagship smartphone will be available in more Asian markets like Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand later this month, according to HTC. HTC's combined sales in July and August were NT$25.1 billion, indicating that the company will need to generate at least NT$16.9 billion in sales for September to reach the low end of its third-quarter target of NT$42 billion-NT$47 billion. HTC shares opened 1.09 percent higher at NT$138.5 in Wednesday morning trading after the announcement of its August sales. (By Jeffrey Wu)
