New Taipei City wins first place of ”low carbon sustainable homeland certification”

New Taipei City is honored with the Silver certification of the project”low carbon sustainable homeland certification” launched by the EPA (Environmental Protection Administration), which is the highest level of the project. Besides, New Taipei City also won first place nationwide, with 134 villages and 10 districts qualified with the certification.

Eric Chu, the mayor of New Taipei City, noted that the place has been winning the title of “cleanest city” for years, and was also honored with the capacity of the only city which reached all five evaluations of “outstanding” level.

Facing the global warming crisis, New Taipei City has implemented several energy saving and carbon reduction actions, featuring five dimensions of action plans including green building, green energy, green transportation, recycling of resources, and sustainable living. By implementing several environmental policies, New Taipei not only became the first city in Asia to be recognized by the global coalition 'Compact of Mayors’ as a fully Compact compliant city, but also named a global leader in carbon disclosure by the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), and chosen as the low carbon demonstrating city.

Liu Ho-ran, commissioner of the Environmental Protection Department of New Taipei City, indicated that the low-carbon sustainable homeland certification will not only be implemented in villages and districts, but also be promoted in communities and campuses to promote the low-carbon sustainable action jointly. New Taipei is also the first city to implement the “low carbon community” and “low carbon campus” evaluating system, and 52 communities and 64 schools have qualified with the certification in the whole city so far.
