Taiwan firm recalls melamine-contaminated coffee
Associated Press

A Taiwanese company says it has recalled packs of Mr. Brown instant coffee and milk tea containing contaminated milk powder imported from China.

The King Car Co. says the products may contain small amounts of melamine, a chemical used in plastics. Melamine-tainted dairy products have killed four children and sickened more than 6,200 others in China.

But King Car said Sunday that its popular coffee product sold in steel cans is free of the chemical.

Taiwanese officials seized thousands of pounds (kilograms) of Chinese-produced milk powder early this month after Beijing notified them that it was tainted.
