TAIPEI (Taiwan News) - According to a public opinion poll conducted by Taiwan's opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), President Ma Ying-jeou's (馬英九) disapproval rating hits all-time high at 71.2 percent in DPP polling. Ma's approval rating has sunk to an all-time low at 22.6 percent. Ironically, Ma, representing the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT), won an emphatic victory over his DPP rival with 58 percent of the vote, ending eight years of DPP rule.

The DPP Public Opinion Survey Center Director Chen Chun-lin (陳俊麟) said 48.7 percent of those polled said the 1025 "opposing toxic products, safeguarding Taiwan" demonstration, or 1025 rally, showed the voice of Taiwan, 58.1 percent supported DPP Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) to hold a debate on "sovereignty and cross-strait policy" issues with Ma, and 54.7 percent said "there is no need for a debate because the election is over."

Also, 54.2 percent of those polled said that the Ma administration has granted excessive concessions to China. To sum up, at least 50 to 60 percent of the public disapprove of how Ma is doing as president, believing that Ma has a serious problem of slanting toward China at the expense of Taiwan’s national sovereignty.
