Associated Press
2008-12-19 02:13 PM
The remnants of Tropical Cyclone Dolphin will continue tracking eastward in the Western Pacific just south of Japan on Saturday. The storm has lost most of its strength but strong winds and dangerous surf with up to 10- foot-(3-meter-)high waves are still expected.

Tropical Storm Cinda will continue tracking southward from Diago Garcia in the southern Indian Ocean. it is not expected to make landfall Saturday but will likely kick up waves up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) high.

Tracking southeast, Tropical Cyclone Billy is expected to make landfall in Darwin, Australia on Saturday. The storm will lose most of its strength as it moves over land, but will continue to bring heavy rain and strong winds to northern Australia.

A trough of low pressure will meanwhile extend over the Sea of Japan and bring moderate to heavy showers to Japan and the Korean peninsula. Snow is expected at higher elevations in the north. Tokyo will be south of these showers and will be partly cloudy with a high near 14 Celsius.

Another trough will move across the northern part of China and is expected to trigger widespread scattered showers on Saturday. The system will also bring cooler air. Thus, Beijing will be partly cloudy and cooler with a high near -1 C.

To the south, warm and pleasant weather will persist along the shore of the South China Sea. Expect sunny skies in Hong Kong with a high near 22 C.

In Australia, a low pressure system will move westward into the Great Australian Bight triggering coastal showers in Western and South Australia. Another lingering front will trigger coastal showers along the east coast of New South Wales and Queensland. Sydney may see scattered showers with a high near 20 C.
