Hong Kong authorities say another dead chicken has tested positive for the virulent H5N1 strain of bird flu.

The Agricultural, Fisheries and Conservation Department said in a statement late Thursday that the dead bird was found on the outlying island of Tung Ping Chau on March 2.

It is the second dead chicken collected from the same location.

The H5N1 strain has killed at least 256 people worldwide since 2003, most through contact with sick birds. Scientists are monitoring the virus because of its potential to mutate into a new human influenza virus, which could infect millions.
