The Ministry of Justice said yesterday it would investigate comments on a TV talk show by one of the prosecutors in charge of ex-President Chen Shui-bian's corruption and money laundering cases.

Last Tuesday, prosecutor Wu Wen-chung phoned a popular evening talk show on cable station TVBS to discuss the investigators' strategy and methods.

The ministry said it would see whether the matter violated the confidentiality of the investigation.

The Supreme Prosecutors Office, under which the Special Investigation Division looking into Chen's cases resorts, said Wu's comments were purely his personal opinions, and did not necessarily comply with the thinking of his fellow team members.

Wu reportedly told the talk show guests that there were shortcomings in the SID's case against Chen, a comment which was mentioned in court by the ex-president's attorney yesterday.

Justice Minister Wang Ching-feng asked lawmakers to give her a little time to investigate Wu's comments.

The ministry had made a recording of the talk show comments, she said.
