Bacardi Corp. says it is eliminating 77 jobs at its rum distillery in Puerto Rico as part of a restructuring.

The company says it is shifting some bottling to facilities in Europe and the U.S. mainland to be closer to those markets.

Bacardi says the plant near the Puerto Rican capital will remain its principal site for rum production worldwide. The distillery in Catano, across the bay from San Juan, opened in 1958 and currently employs more than 350 people.

The company said Friday in a statement that the positions will be cut by the end of the fiscal year.
