The European Union says the swine flu epidemic should be renamed "novel flu" because the current name is misleading and could unnecessarily damage the pork industry.European Union Health Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou says pork is safe to eat and has nothing to do with the swine flu outbreak. She says the "wrong connotation" contained in the name "swine flu" could hurt pork producers.
There are four confirmed cases of swine flu in Spain and Britain, and about three dozen people are being tested in those countries. In addition, Vassiliou says a number of unconfirmed swine flu cases have been reported in Denmark, Sweden, Greece, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy and Ireland.
She also says EU health ministers will discuss possible travel restrictions at a meeting Thursday.
