Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is strongly suggesting she will run for president in a vote to be held by next January.

Tymoshenko told a Cabinet session Thursday that "our team" will take part in the presidential election. It was the closest she has come to declaring her candidacy.

Tymoshenko and opposition leader Viktor Yanukovich are expected to be the leading contenders for the presidency. Recent opinion polls have given them 16 percent and 17 percent support respectively.

Tymoshenko's popularity has suffered in recent months. Many Ukrainians say her bitter rivalry with President Viktor Yushchenko has exacerbated the effects of the global financial crisis on Ukraine.

Tymoshenko and Yushchenko were allies in the 2004 Orange Revolution protests.
