A pastor says his church in Northern Ireland has been vandalized a week after it gave shelter to more than 100 Romanian Gypsies who fled their homes amid racist attacks.

Pastor Malcolm Morgan says stones were thrown overnight at the windows of the south Belfast church.

The church had housed about 20 Romanian Gypsy families for a night last week after some of their homes were attacked by gangs hurling bricks and bottles.

Morgan says it would be "very sad" if attack on the church was connected to its decision to provide the Gypsies with a safe place. They have since been temporarily rehoused in student homes left empty over summer.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man is due in court Tuesday to face charges of intimidating the Romanians.
